Cane Bay Schools in Berkeley County South Carolina


With over 5,000 homes scheduled to be built in Cane Bay Plantation and another 5,000 plus planned for the new Parks of Berkeley, Berkeley County had to plan for the future by building two new schools. Cane Bay Plantation is a huge development with miles of trails connecting the neighborhoods and green space in between. There is also a section currently being built by the well known Del Webb company. They are known for their active lifestyle retirement communities. Cane Bay Elementary school has just began construction. The school will serve 700 students ad is scheduled for completion in August of 2009. The school wail cost the county 19.8 million dollars.

A middle school is also being planned for the area, but no funds are allotted for the middle school as of yet. All the land, 160 acres, was donated by Cane Bay developer Ben Gramling III for the schools.

Cane Bay High School, the 70 million dollar school, is set to open next fall with 9th and 10th grade classes. Each following year the school will add a grade until they reach the 1,500 capacity. The school has 98,000 square feet with room for expansion. Cane Bay High School is in Berkeley County in new community of Cane Bay Plantation. Cane Bay High School's mascot will be the Cobras and in true Summerville style, athletics will be a huge part of the school.

New Dorchester County SC High School - Ashley Ridge High

Ashley Ridge is the newest High School for Dorchester County District Two. The newest school cost over 40 million to build and will be opening next August and the proposed attendance lines have been announced. The school will hold 1800 students and will start with 9th and 10th grade and add a grade a year until 2011. The new Principal, Karen Radcliff has been a assistant principal for ten years in Summerville. Teachers and staff will be pulled from Dorchester county schools as well as new hires.

Athletics will be in full swing. The 6,000 spectator stadium is already built and the gym will hold 1600 students. The Athletic program will include Football, Swimming,Volleyball, Wrestling, Cross Country, Golf, Baseball, Soccer, tennis, Basketball, Track, Softball and cheer leading. Ashley Ridge will compete against Reagin 6AA schools which include another new school

Cane Bay, Woodland, Burke, Garrett Tech and Bishop England High Schools.

Band will also be a huge part of the new High School. The new director will be Sue Alexander who is currently at Summerville High School.

The schools mascot was voted on and the winner is the Ashley Ridge Swamp Foxes and red and gold are the colors.. The cafeteria is state of the art and the school has wireless technology. There are even plans to offer a culinary arts course in the first year.

The new school is located off of Hwy 165 in Summerville, SC.
