Ashley Ridge is the newest High School for Dorchester County District Two. The newest school cost over 40 million to build and will be opening next August and the proposed attendance lines have been announced. The school will hold 1800 students and will start with 9th and 10th grade and add a grade a year until 2011. The new Principal, Karen Radcliff has been a assistant principal for ten years in Summerville. Teachers and staff will be pulled from Dorchester county schools as well as new hires.
Athletics will be in full swing. The 6,000 spectator stadium is already built and the gym will hold 1600 students. The Athletic program will include Football, Swimming,Volleyball, Wrestling, Cross Country, Golf, Baseball, Soccer, tennis, Basketball, Track, Softball and cheer leading. Ashley Ridge will compete against Reagin 6AA schools which include another new school
Cane Bay, Woodland, Burke, Garrett Tech and Bishop England High Schools.
Band will also be a huge part of the new High School. The new director will be Sue Alexander who is currently at Summerville High School.
The schools mascot was voted on and the winner is the Ashley Ridge Swamp Foxes and red and gold are the colors.. The cafeteria is state of the art and the school has wireless technology. There are even plans to offer a culinary arts course in the first year.
The new school is located off of Hwy 165 in Summerville, SC.
